X-rays

As many of you are aware, there has been recent media and internet chatter on the safety of dental X-rays. Baba Dental Design wants to reassure you that we take every precaution to ensure that radiation exposure to you is as low as reasonably achievable. When X-rays are necessary, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that dentists use the fastest imaging receptor and use of a rectangular collimator, which we have adhered to for 10+ years. The x-rays we take are on storage phosphor plates (SPPs) and emits radiation lower than other sources. When we changed from conventional x-rays to digital, it was done for our commitment to YOUR SAFETY. The radiation produced was drastically decreased, reducing the need for lead aprons and thyroid collars. However, we DO have them available, at your request. Please do not hesitate to ask if it would better ease your mind to wear it. For pregnant females, PLEASE let us know, so we do not take x-rays, as you are more susceptible to the effects of radiation.

Many oral diseases cannot be detected on the basis of a visual and tactile examination alone. Dental X-ray exams are valuable in providing information about your oral health such as early stage cavities, gum diseases, abscesses, or some types of tumors. X-rays also help Dr. Baba and Dr. Tran catch and treat oral health problems at an early stage; statistics show that 75% of pathology cannot be detected without X-rays. How often dental X-rays should be taken depends on your oral health condition, your age, your risk for disease, and any signs and symptoms of oral disease you may be experiencing. If you would like additional information about this topic, please visit the American Dental Association website www.ADA.org.

We sincerely hope you realize that we are always available for any questions or needs you, your family, your friends, or your colleagues may have. We are here to serve you, to educate you to the best of our abilities, all to ensure YOU a happy and healthy lifestyle!

To your BEST health!
